About the Speaker:

Dr. Jude Austin has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and is an LPC, LMFT, NCC, and CCMHC. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Master of Arts in Counseling Program and serves as the Interim Associate Dean of Social Sciences in the College of Humanities and Sciences at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. His research and scholarship focus on counselor education pedagogy, specifically finding ways to help counseling students develop a therapeutic presence in session. He was awarded the 2020 UMHB Excellence in Scholarship Award, invited to be a 2021 American Counseling Association Conference Keynote Speaker, and was recently awarded the 2023 UMHB Excellence in Teaching Award, making him the first and only faculty member to win both awards. He is also the co-author of the Springer Publishing book, The Counselor Educator’s Guide: Practical In-Class Strategies and Activities, as well as the American Counseling Association’s books, Counselor Self-CareSurviving and Thriving in your Counseling Program, and Doing Counseling: Developing Your Clinical Skills and Style. Dr. Austin serves his local community through his private counseling practice, as an Ethics Commissioner for the city of Belton, TX, and as an Elder at the Vista Community Church.
