Registration is now open for the 2026 Annual Conference: Growing from Our Roots: Integrating Systemic Traditions with Modern Realities, taking place April 9-11, 2026, in Galveston! TAMFT members receive a discount on conference registration. About the Conference:

"Growing from our roots" reflects the importance of integrating foundational therapeutic practices with modern approaches to marriage and family therapy. This theme encourages exploring holistic, culturally sensitive methods that honor tradition while addressing contemporary challenges in relationships.

About Our Keynotes:

STEVEN HARRIS, Ph.D., LMFT

Steven M. Harris, Ph.D., LMFT, received his master’s and doctoral degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University. He is a Professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota. Prior to living in Minnesota, he was on the faculty at Texas Tech University for 13 years. While in Texas, Dr. Harris chaired the Research Advisory Group for the Texas Healthy Marriage Initiative and was recognized for Outstanding Service by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (2008). He has been practicing as a family therapist for over 35 years. He is the past Editor for the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy. Dr. Harris is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, has written four books, and has contributed a variety of other publications and media resources to the field throughout his career. He hosts a YouTube channel that showcases family therapy approaches and family therapy research methods (MinnMFT). Dr. Harris also serves as the Director of the Minnesota Couples on the Brink Project at the University of Minnesota. He conducts research on the many facets of divorce decision-making and the Discernment Counseling approach he and his colleague, Dr. William J. Doherty, pioneered at the University of Minnesota. A revision of their first textbook on Discernment Counseling (originally published in April 2017) will be released in 2026.

His keynote presentation is titled "One Couple – Four Models: Contemporary Couple Therapy Practice Updates." He will also host two breakout sessions following his keynote.

 

VICTORIA HARRISON, MA

Victoria Harrison, MA, began studying family systems with Murray Bowen in 1975 and served on the faculty at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family from 1990 to 2024, where she taught, supervised, and directed the Postgraduate Training Program. She established a private practice and an educational program, the Center for the Study of Natural Systems and the Family, in Houston in 1998, after making her home in Houston. She has integrated biofeedback and neurofeedback for self-regulation of anxiety with family systems psychotherapy since 1977. She is the author of numerous articles on research and clinical work and has published The Family Diagram and Family Research: An Illustrated Guide to Tools for Working on Differentiation of Self and My Family Myself: A Journal of Discovery, popular resources for family work. She also works with Dr. Katie Long to publish Family Systems Forum, a quarterly publication with articles based on Bowen theory. Her presentation is titled "Bowen Theory and the Impact of Relationships on Health and Reproduction: For Better and For Worse."
